Eosinophilic gastroenteritis, an inflammatory disease of unknown etiology, commonly involves the stomach and small intestine with eosinophilic infiltration. Here, we report an unusual case of eosinophilic gastroenteritis involving the entire digestive tract as a manifestation of hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES). The identification of eosinophilic gastroenteritis in prednisone-dependent eosinophilic bronchitis and asthma

This case reports the unique association of eosinophilic gastrointestinal disease with eosinophilic bronchitis, asthma and chronic rhinosinusitis and some features of lymphocytic hypereosinophilic syndrome, describes a diagnostic protocol for patients with asthma and persistent eosinophilic bronchitis, and suggests that the use of a novel EPX-mAb provides a reliable method to identify eosinophi...

[Eosinophilic cholecystitis: an infrequent cause of cholecystectomy].

Eosinophilic cholecystitis is a rare form of cholecystitis. Histologically, it is characterized by a dense, transmural leukocyte infiltrate composed of more than 90% eosinophils. The etiology remains obscure, although it had been associated with allergies, parasites, hypereosinophilic syndromes, eosinophilic gastroenteritis, cholelithiasis, and acalculous cholecystitis. Here we report an eosino...

IL-5-directed approaches in the treatment of eosinophil-driven diseaselate

Eosinophils are involved in the initiation and propagation of diverse inflammatory responses, including antigen presentation and the release of proinflammatory cytokines, chemokines, lipid mediators and cytotoxic granules (1-4) (Fig. 1). Tissue damage and dysfunction resulting from secretion of these pleiotropic mediators is a common pathogenic component in several diseases, including atopic as...

Uncommon presentation of hypereosinophilic syndrome.

The hypereosinophilic syndrome is a group of diseases characterised by persistent blood eosinophilia, defined as more than 1500 cells per micro liter [1], with end-organ involvement and no recognised secondary causes such as skin diseases, parasitic infection or allergy (Table). The sustained overproduction of eosinophils causes eosinophilic infiltration and release of mediators causing damage ...
